Well, the Blue Ridge Parkway ride is over. It ended up being even better than I imagined it would be. My favorite part was Deals Gap, and my second favorite was the Skyline Drive. We ended up doing 1800 miles in 5 days, 900 freeway miles and 900 twisty miles. We were pretty beat up when we got home at about 3:00AM on Monday. The North Carolina portion of the Parkway was just spectacular. The middle portion was extremely nice, but it was not as breathtaking as the southern portion or Skyline Drive. We came very close to hitting a couple of bears in the road on Skyline Drive and this was the first time I ever saw a bear in the wild. Go to the past rides pictures here to see the parkway pictures.

Saturday we did go to the Honda Homecoming. It really was a great ride and we had a lot of fun. We left at about 6 and Mark had the great idea of taking the long way home. Boy, it really was a long way home. We got hit by the old radar gun a couple of times on the way home but none of the fine officers ever gave chase. I think they could sense our desperation and wanted us to get home just as much as we did. Either that or the radar cannot register the speed we were traveling.
The Morgantown ride was cancelled mostly due to a lack of stamina. I actually slept until 10:00 on Sunday. Skidplate and I decided we would ride up to Pymatuming since we were supposed to do that ride in the spring and we never did it.
This Saturday, July 30, we will be riding to the Honda Homecoming. This should be a nice event and we are going to tour the Honda factory and I am going to try to score a test ride on a Goldwing or a ST1300. We will be leaving at 7:00AM from the McDonalds at Salt Springs Road. On Sunday, July 31 we will be going to Morgantown, WV for Mountainfest. This is a new bike rally and we will see how good it is. Even if the rally stinks we will have a really nice ride there and back. We will also be leaving for this run at 7:00AM from the usual McDonalds. Our meeting McDonalds has redecorated and I really don’t like it. There is no longer an area where we can sit as a group and there is no longer a good view of the entrance. It was a perfect location with its closeness to Rt.80, Rt. 11, 680, and 76. It is also nice because there is a gas station connected to the parking lot and there is a traffic light for us to pull out on so we do not get broken up as soon as we pull out, but there is some talk of moving to the Arbys at 46 and 80. Let me know if you are planning on going on any of these rides this weekend. Last Saturday I took a nice solo ride to West Virginia, and returned home after dark on Rt. 2 along the Ohio River. Riding the river after dark was a really nice ride, and I plan to do more nighttime rides.
Yesterday I took a ride to the Kinzua Dam and rode around the Allegheny Forest. It was a really nice ride but PA really cannot compare to WV. Last weekend we took a ride up to Presque Isle. Click here for Kinzua and click here for Presque Isle.
Yesterday we went to Mid Ohio for the Vintage Motorcycle Days. I wish I could say we had fun, but it kind of sucked. We wanted to see Christian Pfieffer but he would not ride in the rain and it rained during both times he was scheduled while we were there. We wanted to see the trials riding, but the map seemed to be wrong and we could not find the area. Toward the end of the day we found the trials demo area, but by then the shows were done. They would probably been cancelled by the rain anyway. I did not get there in time to sign up for the demo rides, but even if I had most of them had been cancelled due to rain. If it was not raining is was incredibly hot and humid. Now Skidplate does not want to go see the Superbikes next weekend. I can hardly blame her. The trip looks more fun in pictures, so click here to see them.
