Skidplate has a new bike

It looks like the weather is going to stink tomorrow so we are moving the Pymatuming ride to this Sunday.  We are going to be leaving the Salt Springs/Rt. 80 McDonalds at Noon.  Skidplate picked up a 2005 Vulcan 750 Wednesday so now she thinks she is something special.

Mothers Day Poker Run

Posted on by 0 comment

Sunday we went to the Mothers Day Poker Run and it was a great ride.  This was the 25th time the Buckaroos have put on this ride, and it is my favorite run of the year.  This was actually the first poker run I ever went on, I think the first year I went was in 1982 or 1983.  You can find pictures of the run here.  Looks like rain may be in the future for the coming weekend.  If the Pymatuming trip gets rained out again it will be banned from my ride list for life.  I picked up a lot of interesting fliers at the poker run which I hope to soon have posted on the web site.

Harding Park Cycles Open House

Posted on by 0 comment

Sunday, May 1, Gustinelli and I rode our bikes to Harding Park Cycles to attend their open house and see a demonstration by the Starboyz.  Skidplate and the boy rode down in the car and I should have rode with them because it was just stupid cold outside.  Skidplate had to park nearly a mile from the bike shop because it was so crowded.  Click here to see some pictures we took – the boy took most of them and there is a link to a video that Mark took of a burnout they did.  I didn’t see Mark at the open house – he did not ride down with us – we would have slowed down every once in a while to let the Kawasaki catch up.

Motorcycle Shopping

What a lousy weekend this way.  Saturday I went to State 8 Motorcycles to buy a Vulcan 750 for Skidplate, but now I think Sate 8 is on the boycott list.  The bike they had advertised had a dead battery and I don’t think it would have started with a jump because judging from the plates it had been sitting for at least three years.  Then he gave me a price which was $1,000 higher than what was in the advertisement.  When I asked why the price was so much higher than what was in the advertisement he told me they already sold the one in the ad.  I pulled a copy of the ad out of my pocket and the stock numbers matched!  He told me if I put some money down they would see if they could get it started.  Oh well, two hours of driving for nothing.  I spend all day Sunday working on the Vstrom.  I put a cigarette lighter jack under the seat and installed a voltmeter/thermometer/timer thing so I know how cold I really am.  I cleaned, adjusted, and lubed the chain and changed the oil.  I still need to put new brake pads on and change the brake fluid, but I got lazy and came inside to watch the superbike racing.  This coming Sunday, May 1, we are going to ride to Harding Park Cycles in Canton.  They are having an open house and are supposed to have free food and prizes and the Starboyz are supposed to be doing demonstrations.  Maybe they will give Tank a good price on some new tires because Tanks tires are soon going to be showing belts!  I have changed the background on the Future Rides section for those who can’t figure out how to not print backgrounds.

The weather really, really stinks

Posted on by 0 comment

It looks like the weather is turning bad and the weekend is really going to stink, so we are moving the ride to Pymatuming from the 24th to the 30th.  Hopefully summer will be back by then.  We had a really nice ride on the 17th to Pittsburg.  We rode down to East Liverpool with the Struthers guys and then we split off and headed to Pittsburg.  I’ll bet those guys would have gone to Pittsburg instead of Mountaineer if they had known we were going to end up at Hooters.  Check pictures from the ride here
